1x to 10x

Show live video of face, head, or body for overall appearance, texture, and features.  Take still pictures to display and discuss.  Print pictures or save pictues as JPEG files to your client file.


Take pictures of the head, front, top, back sides to show overall apprearance of hair, thinning and pattern baldness; determine Grade or degree of pattern baldness for the client with visual images

Used close up you can see skin texture and surface features such as wrinkles, blemishes, moles, tags, etc.


Used close up you can see specific areas of the scalp and hair showing thinning and balding patterns or hair conditions to compare with other parts of the head or scalp
10x to 20x

For somewhat closer views than 1-10x lens range, lenses in 10x to 20x are best to futher emphasize texture problems or skin irregularities or abnormalities such as moles, tags, acne, rosacea, or other forms of dematitus.  The 12x sidlighting lens is best at showing skin texture.  The 14x polarizing lens is best to show pigmentation and dilated capillaries for a larger surface area than a 30x polarizing lens.

30x to 50x

See close-ups of skin to view clogged pores, surface texture, surface features such as wrinkles, moles, skin tags, and inflamations, rashes or other forms of dermatitis.


50x is the most popular for showing thinning hair, hair density counts, and general exams of hair and scalp conditions.
30x or 50x with polarization

Using the polarizing light feature you can see below skin surface for pigmentation (hyperpigmentation), dilated capillaries, depth of pores, and various skin inflamations.


Using a polarized lens on the scalp allows you to see sub-dermal features such as capillaries, follicular structure, sebum clogging, and inflamation
100x or 200x See closer views of specific skin features such as moles, clogged or open pores, dilated capillaries.

Great for examining the scalp, hair follicles, and hair in general for dead skin, clogged follicles, oil, dryness, damage, inflammation of scalp, cuticle condition, split ends.  100x is also sometimes used for density and hair width measurements


400x to 750x Examine clogged or infected pores, black heads, and check for evidence of mites, subdermal condition, and capillary blood flow. Best for examining hair for damaged cuticles, exposed cortex, chemical damage from harsh products and overuse, physical breakage such as split ends, heat damage such as bubbles and  broken hair, and general appearance such as sheen or dullness, oily or dry hair.
